The Pennsylvania State Troopers Association (PSTA) represents more than 4,300 active and retired Troopers—each committed to the safety, service, and strength of our Commonwealth.
The PSTA was formed to support those who protect us. From advocating for troopers’ rights to fostering unity among members, our mission is rooted in loyalty, resilience, and an unwavering dedication to public service.
Pennsylvania’s state police force was founded out of necessity—during a time when rural areas and industrial communities were left vulnerable by an overwhelmed local law enforcement system. As historian Bruce Smith wrote in Police Systems in the United States (1940), Pennsylvania’s approach was a pioneering model, combining centralized leadership with a decentralized patrol structure that reached even the most remote corners of the state.
That legacy of proactive, community-wide protection continues today—and the PSTA remains committed to honoring and advancing it.
